A playground awaits the children while adults are finishing a game of horseshoes.  The local hiking trails include five 14,000’ peaks; Sunshine, Wetterhorn, Handies, Red Cloud, and Uncompahgre.  The Alpine Loop begins in Lake City and takes you over Cinnamon Pass to Silverton then back again over Engineer Pass in a Jeep rented on site.  You will have seen American Basin and photographed Whitmore Falls.  The loop follows Henson Creek past old mining towns back to Lake City where it joins the Lake Fork of the Gunnison River.  Such trout streams are admired by fly fishermen from afar.  Walk down the street to shops and restaurants and take your camera to the quaint Victorian downtown.  Life is so fun when it is so slowwwwwwwww.
